Chengdu, a renowned cultural city with nearly 5,000 years of culture, has enjoyed and accumulated its unique temperament over its long history. Chengdu Museum, located in Tianfu Square, is an encyclopedia, preserving and presenting this city’s splendid past. It is much more than an urban cultural landmark. It is the spiritual homeland for the people of Chengdu.
Here in this museum, urban civilization’s development is on display to uncover its remarkable eras throughout history. From exquisite bronze ware from the Pre-Qin Era; massive terracotta figurines and bricks from the Han, Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties to delicate porcelain and silk from Tang, Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties; and precious funerary sculptures and rare curios from the Ming and Qing dynasties, each and every piece echoes the unceasing footprints of history.
Chengdu Museum is determined to connect Chengdu with the world. Therefore, we are passionately committed to enriching temporary exhibitions for our visitors in order to build a bridge where unique cultures from all over the world can communicate and bloom in their different tones and hues due to nourishment from local context.
In our museum, public cultural needs are highly respected, and it has hosted a variety of diversified social education activities to expand connotations behind cultural relics and exhibitions in order to open new doors for the visitors to communicate. Applying the Internet and new media allows various functions around the museum to be presented in a more rapid and large-scale manner.
Protecting and inheriting traditional culture is an important responsibility for Chengdu Museum. We sincerely hope, through the power of culture, we may meet people’s needs for a better life and incite the spirit to march on.
